  • Proof of active, applicable automobile insurance
  • Contact information
  • Credit card
  • Properly rated tow vehicle
  • Ball hitch size 2-5/16”

A valid credit card is required for your rental, including payment and any required security authorization and deposit.

How does insurance work?

You are required to provide proof of your own vehicle's active, applicable auto insurance coverage before your rental can be approved. We verify your personal auto insurance before approving your rental.

Do you offer pickup and delivery?

No. We currently do not offer delivery or pickup from job sites or residences. All rentals are customer pickup and customer return.

You are responsible for picking up the trailer from our designated rental location and returning it at the agreed-upon date and time.

Can someone else pick up or tow the trailer for me?

The person renting and entering the information to be verified must be the person driving, picking up and dropping off the trailer. We verify all documentation. Authorization to tow our trailer is permitted only to the person who has been verified and approved.

The renter is responsible for abiding by and upholding the Orange Iron Equipment Rentals Terms and Conditions as well as the Rental Contract.

When is my rental officially confirmed?

Your rental is not considered fully approved until all required information and documentation have been received and reviewed, and any required payment or authorization has been completed.

You will receive an email confirmation once your rental has been approved.

Towing requirements

How do I know if my vehicle can tow the trailer?

Our trailers will only connect to a ball hitch size 2-5/16”.

You are responsible for confirming that your tow vehicle is properly rated and equipped for the trailer. You must have a heavy-duty or medium-duty truck, such as a 3/4-ton (F-250, 2500) or 1-ton (F-350, 3500) pickup. Our trailers have a GVWR of 16,000 lbs, meaning your vehicle needs a towing capacity well above this loaded weight and the load you intend to transport.

The combined weight must remain within your vehicle's towing capacity, payload capacity, hitch rating, and applicable legal limits.

When in doubt, check your vehicle manufacturer's towing specifications or consult a qualified professional before renting.

Do I need a brake controller?

Our trailers are equipped with electric brakes. Your tow vehicle must be properly equipped to operate the trailer's braking system. Please verify compatibility before arriving for pickup.

Do I need a specific hitch?

Your vehicle must have the appropriate ball hitch size 2-5/16”, wiring connection, and towing equipment required for the trailer you are renting.

If you're unsure whether your vehicle is properly equipped, contact us before booking.

Who is responsible for securing the load?

The renter is responsible for properly loading and securing their cargo. Never exceed the trailer's rated capacity, and always follow applicable load-securing requirements.

Loading & safety

Volume and weight are two different problems

Heavy, dense material like dirt, gravel or concrete hits the weight limit long before it fills the box. Bulky, light material like furniture or branches does the opposite — it fills the box long before it gets close to the weight limit. A quick comparison makes this obvious.

Material Per cubic yard, dry Per cubic yard, wet
Topsoil / fill dirt 2,000–2,700 lbs 2,800–3,375 lbs
Gravel / crushed stone 2,565–2,835 lbs up to 3,375 lbs
Concrete rubble 3,900–4,050 lbs up to 4,050+ lbs
Clay about 2,300 lbs about 2,970 lbs
Branches / yard waste 400–800 lbs up to 1,500 lbs
What is not allowed to be hauled in our trailers?

Certain heavy, sticky or corrosive items can severely damage, dent or ruin a rented trailer. The following are not permitted:

  • Hazardous materials. Toxic chemicals, wet concrete, or uncontained debris — especially in dump trailers — can ruin the bed or cause environmental liability.
  • Large concrete blocks and boulders. Dropping massive chunks of concrete or large rocks directly into an empty steel bed causes deep dents, punctures and compromised sidewalls.
  • Exceedingly heavy wet materials. Wet dirt, mud and uncontained concrete can easily exceed the payload capacity of a standard trailer, bending axles or straining the hydraulic lift cylinders.
  • Corrosive and sticky materials. Leaking or spilled paint thinners, solvents or fuel can strip protective coatings, ruin the bed lining and cause rust.
  • Gooey adhesives and resins. Epoxies, glues and roofing tars stick permanently to the metal bed and are extremely difficult or costly to remove without damaging the interior finish.
  • Wet concrete and mortar residue. Allowing wet concrete to dry inside the bed turns the trailer into a solid, heavy block that ruins the interior and breaks free only with destructive chipping.
Important towing & safety notice

The combined weight of your trailer, cargo and towing vehicle must remain within your vehicle's towing capacity. Renters are responsible for ensuring their tow vehicle is properly rated and equipped for the load being transported.

Do not exceed the trailer's GVWR, axle ratings, tire ratings, hitch ratings, or your vehicle manufacturer's towing and payload limits.

The renter is responsible for complying with all applicable federal, state and local laws and regulations regarding towing, loading, securing cargo, and operation of the vehicle and trailer.

If you notice a problem or safety issue with our trailer before leaving, notify us immediately.

Damage & accidents

What happens if I damage the trailer?

Breaking something is never fun — especially when it belongs to someone else. If something is damaged or broken during your rental, the sooner we know, the better.

  • Stop using the trailer if continued use could cause additional damage.
  • Call or text us as soon as possible.
  • Tell us what happened and what is damaged.
  • Send us clear photos of the damage.
  • Follow any additional instructions we provide.

Promptly reporting damage helps us address the situation quickly and can prevent further damage.

What if I have an accident?

If you are involved in an accident:

  • First, make sure everyone is safe.
  • Contact emergency services if necessary.
  • Follow all applicable reporting requirements.
  • Notify Orange Iron Equipment Rentals as soon as possible.
  • Provide photographs and relevant information.

Do not attempt to repair any damage yourself unless specifically authorized by Orange Iron Equipment Rentals.

Am I responsible for damage during my rental?

The renter is responsible for the trailer, any rented chains or equipment, and tires during the rental period in accordance with the rental agreement.

Your signed rental agreement contains the specific terms, conditions, responsibilities and potential charges related to flat tires, damage, loss, misuse or unauthorized use.

Rental period & returns

How long can I rent a trailer?

Rental periods are based on the reservation selected during checkout. Availability may vary depending on the trailer and date requested.

If you need a trailer for longer than your original rental period, contact us as soon as possible. Extensions are subject to availability and additional rental charges.

What happens if I'm late returning the trailer?

Please contact us immediately if you anticipate being late.

Late returns may result in additional charges and can affect another customer's reservation. Returning the trailer on time helps us keep the rental schedule running smoothly.

Can I return the trailer early?

Yes, you may return the trailer early, but early returns do not qualify for a refund or adjustment. Please refer to your rental agreement.

Can I cancel or change my reservation?

Cancellation and reservation-change policies may vary depending on the rental and the timing of the request. Cancellation fees apply to any cancellation made less than 24 hours in advance. Please review the cancellation terms presented during checkout.

Changing the dates or times on your reservation may not always be available due to other bookings. Contact us if you need to make a change.
